Who said it? Who is the speaker talking to? What is the significance to the play? Do you recognize any literary elements?

“I made a gift for you today…I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing.”

  1. Mary Warren said this to Elizabeth Proctor. It's significance is that Elizabeth will be asked if she keeps any poppets when she's accused of witch craft and it's ironic since she receives this gift from her then is accused of keeping poppets. I also recognize irony in this quote.

  2. Mary Warren says this to Elizabeth Proctor. The significance that this quote has to the play is that when Elizabeth Proctor gets accused as a witch she is asked if she keeps any poppets in her household. I noticed irony when Elizabeth recieves the poppet she gets immediatly asked the question if she keeps any poppets when she gets accused.

Mary Warren says this to Elziabeth, I think its significant because the doll was later used in court against Elziabeth. It was like she was donig witchcraft, because the needle was in the doll. But Elizabeth really wasnt doing withcraft. I noticed irony and foreshadowing in this quote.

Mary Warren says this to Elizabeth Proctor. It might be a clue to say that the girls really are witches, since later on in the story Elizabeth gets accused of witchcraft on Abigail, with the doll that Mary gave to her. I think this is foreshadowing because Proctor in the story refers back to the doll that was given to Elizabeth.

Mary Warren stated this to Elizabeth. They use the doll to apprehend her of witchcraft. This situation makes me realize that the author uses irony in a sense of constructing blame.

  17. marry warren says this to elizabeth proctor. the significance is that the doll is eventually used as evidence agains elizabeth proctor because it has needles in it and abigail claims that elizabeths spirit is put upon her and her spirit stabbed her in the exact places that the doll had the needles (saying that elizabeth made the voodoo doll of abigail).

  33. The quote was spoken by Mary Warren to Elizabeth Proctor.

Before the trials taken place in Salem, puppets were not pitied, making them was simply a hobby. But when the thought of witchcraft had arrived; it was believed that puppets were a form of a taboo ritual. The significance in the situation is that the very same doll was brought up in trial, becoming utter irony. She was falsely accused of using the doll as a torture device.
